Paul Allen, a cameraman in pit lane has suffered a broken collarbone and broken ribs after he was knocked down by a loose tyre from Mark Webber’s car during the German GP on Sunday.

As soon as Webber pulled out of the pit, the tire spun off the wheel hub and started bouncing down the pit lane, narrowly missing the Lotus F1 pit crew team before hitting Allen who didn’t see the tire coming towards him.

Allen was conscious throughout the accident and transferred immediately by helicopter to the Nurburgring circuit’s medical centre.

A statement issued by the FIA said: “He was treated at the circuit medical centre and then transported by helicopter to Koblenz Hospital.

“The Briton has been kept there, under observation. Further information from the hospital will be provided as soon as it becomes available.”

As a result of the unsafe release, Red Bull was fined €30,000 by the FIA, the governing body of F1.
